McMillen is currently seeking a Senior Engineer - Geotechnical Dams to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will be a Professional Engineer with a strong background in geotechnical design. This professional will apply engineering and geologic principles and techniques to oversee and complete dam/hydroelectric and water resource projects, while mentoring less experienced staff. The preferred location for this position includes Portland, Boise, Denver, or Sacramento, though other locations may be considered depending on the experience of the candidate.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Effectively manage multi-discipline teams for hydroelectric and dam/dam safety projects and programs
- Serve as an active seller-doer primarily focused on cultivating existing relationships, identifying forthcoming opportunities, cross-selling services, and seeking out opportunities to work at new and different locations with the same client.
- Manage projects including client expectations and project scope, schedule, and budgets.
- Work in conjunction with engineers, geologists, and scientists to solve project challenges.
- Assist with feasibility studies by conducting research to assess challenges and develop solutions.
- Conduct field inspections; observe and participate in field exploration and testing programs; and perform site characterizations and evaluate geotechnical hazards.
- Assist in the selection of criteria for planning, design, and construction of dams, foundations, slopes, and earth-retaining structures.
- Assess subsurface conditions, including soil and rock properties and geomechanical conditions, including review and interpretation of field maps, field logs, test data, and other field documentation.
- Evaluate field and laboratory test data and develop parameters for use in technical analyses.
- Conduct numerical analysis using programs such as DIPS, UNWEDGE, SWEDGE, UDEC, Phase2, Rocscience SLIDE.
- Prepare technical reports including geotechnical data reports, geotechnical baseline reports, field reports, technical memoranda, computation packages, feasibility reports, design and evaluation reports, construction drawings, and specifications.
- Provide field engineering support for projects during construction.
- Mentor more junior engineers in a respectful and collaborative manner that promotes positive team spirit.
- Participate in professional development and training activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
- BS in Civil Engineering from an accredited university required (MS with a geotechnical focus preferred)
- Professional Engineer registration required
- 15+ years of experience related to geotechnical analysis and design and/or dam safety engineering
- Knowledge of FERC Guidelines
- General knowledge of seismic analyses
- Skilled in reading, interpreting and communicating contract documents, plans and specifications
- Knowledge of the application of engineering and construction related to dam and hydro infrastructure
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to convey technical information through written and verbal communication (English)
- Project management experience
- Ability to work in a team environment, work independently and be self-motivated
- Willing to travel up to 25%
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
